The Perfect Puppy Course

By the time puppies are old enough to attend socialisation and training classes, many of them have already firmly developed bad habits such as jumping up at people, chewing on inappropriate items (such as your hands, clothes, favourite slippers, your new iPod!), play biting, attention seeking etc.

These bad habits are very easy to form, and hard to get rid of once established. The best way by far is to prevent them from happening in the first place.

The Perfect Puppy Course is unique in that it offers the best of both worlds – four one to one lessons in your home, followed by four lessons in a group class.

Ideally, the first lesson should take place the first week your puppy arrives in their new home. This is undoubtedly the most important week of your puppies life – lessons learnt during these first few days at home will make the difference between a well behaved, well mannered adult dog who will be your best friend and can accompany you anywhere, and a dog who causes havoc either in or outside of the home, jumps up at your guests, doesn’t come when called and ignores your requests to calm down etc.

The first four lessons in your home cover:
  • Housetraining
  • How to keep your puppy out of mischief
  • How to manage play biting, chewing and teach them the all important bite inhibition
  • How to make sure your puppy doesn’t learn to jump up on people
  • Good manners
  • Basic obedience
  • How to provide and maximise positive socialisation opportunities whilst waiting for vaccination cover
  • Diet and exercise
  • The foundations of fantastic recall and walking nicely on the lead
The four group lessons cover:
  • Off lead socialisation and play with other puppies, whilst ensuring your puppy can still focus on you and comply with your requests such as come here, sit etc despite distractions in the environment
  • Progressing the basic obedience learnt in the one to one lessons
  • Polite greetings, interactions, and play with other dogs
  • The Association of Pet Dogs Good Companion Puppy Assessment and Award
The group classes take place on a Friday morning or evening. Each class lasts for one hour. A maximum of six puppies are enrolled onto each course, which allows plenty of opportunity for individual attention from the trainer, whilst being a sufficient number for supervised and well managed socialisation.

This course is suitable for puppies between the ages of 6 and 12 weeks old at the start of the course. Puppies must have had all their vaccinations before being allowed to come to the class sessions.

You are welcome to come along and watch a class without your dog before booking your place. However please contact me to arrange this, to ensure I know who is coming and that there is actually a class running on the day of your visit.

The cost of this course is £120 which includes a free puppy starter pack and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers Good Companion Puppy Assessment and Award.

Courses must be booked and paid for in advance. Please check availability and book a place using the How To Book? page.
