DanielsDogs is owned and run by Lucy Daniels.
Services include one to one training, and puppy and adult dog group classes.
I also offer Puppy, New and Rescue Dog consultations for people who are considering
getting a dog or who have very recently acquired one.
I am fully insured for all aspects of my work, as any professional dog trainer should
be.
My whole approach to dog training and behaviour modification is based on the most
up to date and scientifically valid information, which has proved time and time
again that dogs learn best when treated with kindness and respect, and when they
get rewarded for doing what’s right, and NOT when they are punished for doing wrong.
The ‘Dominance’ myth, based on inaccurate accounts of how an unrelated pack of wolves
thrown together by humans interact, leading to some trainers insisting that we must
be the pack leader or Alpha, plays no part in my philosophy regarding dogs.
The methods I use are based on positive, motivational and reward based training
and interaction between dogs and their owners.
I have owned and cared for dogs from a very early age, and have experience with
a wide range of breeds, and particularly rescue dogs.
In August 2007 a Springer Spaniel called Boris came into my life, and changed it
completely. I was his fourth attempt at finding a new home in six months. He came
with many issues; dog/dog aggression, handling aggression, food, object and location
guarding, along with other behavioural issues. It quickly became clear that he had
been treated badly in the past, and had learnt to resort to aggression whenever
he felt uncomfortable. It took him a long time to learn to trust me.
We tried several different trainers and classes, all of which I was unhappy with.
I then discovered positive reinforcement and clicker training, and we haven’t looked
back since. I became so intrigued by how it worked that I started a degree course
in Canine Behaviour and Training which I am now in the third year of.
I regularly attend courses, workshops and seminars covering all aspects of dog behaviour
and training in order to keep up-to-date with the most recent advances in animal
training and behaviour modification.
